Principle of Operation
Gas is compressed by the reciprocating motion of a piston inside a cylinder, typically in three main stages:
- Suction stage: The piston moves downward, lowering cylinder pressure below atmospheric, opening the suction valve and drawing gas into the cylinder.
- Compression stage: The piston moves upward, reducing cylinder volume and compressing the gas. As pressure rises to the set value, the exhaust valve opens.
- Exhaust stage: The compressed high-pressure gas is discharged through the exhaust valve into downstream systems or storage devices. The cycle then repeats.
