Working Principle of Reciprocating Compressor
The reciprocating compressor operates on the principle of volume change, using a piston’s reciprocating motion to intake and compress gas. The process includes:
- Suction stage: The piston moves downward, cylinder pressure drops, the suction valve opens, and gas is drawn in.
- Compression stage: The piston moves upward, reducing cylinder volume, compressing the gas, and increasing its pressure. When the set exhaust pressure is reached, the exhaust valve opens.
- Exhaust stage: High-pressure gas exits the cylinder via the exhaust valve, entering the downstream system or storage. The piston returns to its initial position, ready for the next cycle.
